Maritime Volksfest with several stages, decorated sailing ships and Top 40 bands around the Ratsdelft Emden
The Delft- und Hafenfest originated from the idea of making Emden's maritime heritage visible in an annual citizens' and folk festival. The city centre around the Ratsdelft provides the ideal backdrop: the open harbour basin, the historic buildings, the town hall, and the adjacent alleys allow for an atmospherically dense festival concept. Today, alongside the Matjes Days, the festival is considered the second central summer highlight of Emden's event season.
Live concerts are presented on several stages along the harbour edge: Schlager, folk, and country music during the day, and Top 40 bands from the Bremen and Hamburg regions in the evening. Admission to the concerts is free. Stage coordinators are Martin Sährig (Tel. 0171/4458551) and Frank Nowak (0176/96009243).
Decorated sailing ships and a lightship dock in the Ratsdelft over the festival weekend. Many of the ships can be visited; harbour tours and sail-away tours are also offered. The maritime look – with flag decorations, fairy lights, and East Frisian pennant decorations – characterises the image of the festival weekend.
Numerous exhibitors offering maritime decorations, East Frisian specialities, crafts, and souvenirs can be found on the festival grounds. Food stalls offer Matjes, shrimps, bratwurst, potato pancakes, and international specialities. Several flea markets (including a children's and family flea market) are held concurrently. Admission to the entire festival area is free.
The 2026 festival programme follows the proven structure of previous years. The festival opens on Friday evening, followed by two full festival days on Saturday and Sunday. Preliminary communication from the East Frisian event platform ostfriesland.travel confirms the weekend as the date for 2026. The detailed line-ups for each stage will be announced by the organiser in early summer 2026.
The maritime atmosphere, the central location, and the combination of live entertainment and market area make the festival an accessible family event that is well-received by locals and day-trippers from the region.
The exact programme for 2026 will be published by the organiser in early summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Current detailed programme items will be communicated in the weeks leading up to the festival via emden-touristik.de.
