Volksfest in the Dahn spa park with combined town Kerwe on the third weekend of August
The Dahner Kurparkfest with Kerwe is the main town festival of the Felsenland's central town. From August 14th to 16th, 2026, the Dahn spa park will be transformed into a festival mile with catering, live music, a carousel, food stalls, and three days of atmosphere. The event combines a classic Palatinate Volksfest (people's festival) format with the traditional town Kerwe (church fair).
The Kurpark Dahn is the central green space of the Felsenstadt (rock town) and is located not far from the town centre at the foot of the characteristic sandstone rocks. During the Kurparkfest, the park is used for a festival tent, stage, carousel, and market stalls – a format that leverages the size of the tourist town of Dahn and attracts visitors from the entire Dahner Felsenland and Southern Palatinate.
The Kurpark Dahn is a well-maintained green space with old trees, seating areas, and small water features. During the Kurparkfest, the park is used for a festival tent, catering stands, a carousel, a shooting range, and a food area. Its location on the edge of the town centre makes the park a natural meeting point – visitors often combine their festival visit with a walk through the Dahn town centre or a climb to the nearby castle ruins.
The Kurparkfest combines the classic Palatinate Kerwe tradition with a Volksfest format. The carousel and amusement rides appeal to families, the beer tent and Palatinate cuisine to the sociable regulars, and the live stage and dance evening to the younger audience. Palatinate specialities – Saumagen (stuffed pig's stomach), Bratwurst (fried sausage), Leberknödel (liver dumplings), Flammkuchen (flame cake) – complement the sweet stall and the French fries stands that are part of the Volksfest.
The Kurparkfest opens on Friday, August 14th, 2026, with the ceremonial tapping of the first keg and a stage programme. On Saturday, the festivities dominate the entire day and evening, and Sunday brings the morning pint, family entertainment, and the festival's conclusion. Live bands, DJs, and Palatinate dialect groups provide the musical accompaniment.
With around 5,000 inhabitants, Dahn is the main town of the Dahner Felsenland and the tourism centre of the southern Palatinate. The castle chain of Alt-Dahn, Grafendahn, and Tanstein, the Palatinate Forest-Vosges du Nord Biosphere Reserve, and the striking sandstone rocks characterise the townscape. Besides the Gaudiwurm (carnival parade) in February, the Kurparkfest is the most important social highlight of the year.
