Club festival with duck race, bingo, and Bengal fireworks at Kämmererplatz — September 5, 2026
The Cuxhaven Butt Festival is one of the typical local club festivals in the city center. The venue is Kämmererplatz — the central square behind the town hall. Organized by the Nordseeheilbad Cuxhaven in collaboration with numerous Cuxhaven clubs, it is a festival by the residents for the residents and guests.
The 2026 edition takes place on Saturday, September 5, 2026 from 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM. A full day of festivities, running from midday until late in the evening. Free admission.
The heart of the Butt Festival is the club mile: local Cuxhaven clubs — from sports clubs and the fire department to cultural associations — present themselves with stands, hands-on activities, culinary offerings, and information about their work.
The entertainment comes from the town itself: local artists, choirs, sports groups, and dance schools showcase their talents. This creates a program that highlights the cultural diversity of Cuxhaven.
The duck race in the Schleusenpriel is the popular spectacle of the Butt Festival: colorful plastic ducks are released into the Schleusenpriel and float with the current to the finish line. Sponsoring a duck is a small contribution that also adds to the excitement. The fastest duck wins — a typical German festival game with a Volksfest (public festival) character.
Bingo, as a social game for all generations, provides excitement in the afternoon. The evening's highlight is a Bengal fireworks display — an unusual and very atmospheric form of pyrotechnic illumination that concludes the festival day atmospherically.
Kämmererplatz, as Cuxhaven's central city square, is ideal for such club festivals: easily accessible, with ample space, and surrounded by downtown gastronomy. The Butt Festival turns the square into a grand club stage once a year.
The exact program for 2026 will be published in advance by Nordseeheilbad Cuxhaven. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Kämmererplatz, 27472 Cuxhaven. Via the A 27 to Cuxhaven. Train connection to Cuxhaven station, from there a 5-minute walk to the city center.
Free. Duck sponsorships and bingo cards are subject to a fee.
Become a duck race sponsor — a small contribution, lots of fun. Wait for the Bengal fireworks late in the evening — the highlight of the festival day.
