Christopher Street Day with info booths, rally, and parade
The Christopher Street Day commemorates the uprising in Christopher Street in New York in 1969, which marked the beginning of the modern LGBTQ+ movement. In Germany, CSD parades are organized in every major city, combining visibility, solidarity, and political demands. Wilhelmshaven, as a regional center on the Lower Saxony North Sea coast, has its own CSD, which has been growing significantly each year. The 6th edition marks another step in the development of this important event.
The program follows the proven structure: During the day, info booths from queer and political organizations, ranging from local associations and counseling centers to political parties and initiatives, open on a central square. A rally with speeches, personal accounts, and solidarity statements leads to the highlight: the grand parade through the city center. Colorful outfits, rainbow flags, music trucks, and dancing people transform Wilhelmshaven's streets into a vibrant, colorful demonstration.
The organizers have announced for the 2026 edition to make the CSD even more colorful and political. In the face of growing hostility and political controversies surrounding LGBTQ+ rights, the message is clear: Wilhelmshaven stands for diversity, for tolerance, and for the defense of hard-won rights. The CSD is both a demonstration and a celebration β a day on which the city shows what an open society stands for.
The 6th edition marks another step in the development of the CSD Wilhelmshaven. The organizing team has announced plans to expand the 2026 program and particularly emphasize the political dimension.
The CSD WHV is one of the important CSD events on the Lower Saxony North Sea coast. Participants travel from all over Northern Germany.
The exact program for 2026 β route, speeches, truck registrations β will be published by the CSD organizing team in due time. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Free admission.
Wilhelmshaven is accessible via the A 29 motorway and by train (Wilhelmshaven main station). During the CSD, the city center will be partially closed; alternative parking facilities on the outskirts are signposted.
