About CSD Wilhelmshaven

The Christopher Street Day Wilhelmshaven (CSD WHV) is the most important queer visibility and demonstration event on the Lower Saxony North Sea coast. The 6th edition on June 6, 2026, combines a political rally, info booths from queer and political organizations, and a large, colorful parade through Wilhelmshaven's city center. According to the organizers, the 2026 CSD is set to be even more colorful and political – in response to growing societal tensions surrounding LGBTQ+ issues. Activists from all over Northern Germany will travel to make Wilhelmshaven a capital of diversity for a day, together with the local queer community.

Visibility, Solidarity, Demonstration

The Christopher Street Day commemorates the uprising in Christopher Street in New York in 1969, which marked the beginning of the modern LGBTQ+ movement. In Germany, CSD parades are organized in every major city, combining visibility, solidarity, and political demands. Wilhelmshaven, as a regional center on the Lower Saxony North Sea coast, has its own CSD, which has been growing significantly each year. The 6th edition marks another step in the development of this important event.

Program: Info Booths, Rally, Parade

The program follows the proven structure: During the day, info booths from queer and political organizations, ranging from local associations and counseling centers to political parties and initiatives, open on a central square. A rally with speeches, personal accounts, and solidarity statements leads to the highlight: the grand parade through the city center. Colorful outfits, rainbow flags, music trucks, and dancing people transform Wilhelmshaven's streets into a vibrant, colorful demonstration.

Political Message

The organizers have announced for the 2026 edition to make the CSD even more colorful and political. In the face of growing hostility and political controversies surrounding LGBTQ+ rights, the message is clear: Wilhelmshaven stands for diversity, for tolerance, and for the defense of hard-won rights. The CSD is both a demonstration and a celebration – a day on which the city shows what an open society stands for.
