About Christmas Magic Hall
Christmas Magic Hall — edition 2026
Four Weeks of Advent in the Hohenlohe Old Town
From Thursday, November 26th, to Sunday, December 20th, 2026, the Christmas Magic Schwäbisch Hall will take place in the historic old town of the Hohenlohe salt city. Four weeks of pre-Christmas festive atmosphere spread across several locations: the market square with St. Michael's Collegiate Church as the center, the Hospital Church with a craft market, old town alleys with additional stalls, and the gingerbread house as a hub for families.
What makes the Christmas Magic special is the combination of classic market activities and a cultural supporting program. Christmas theatre for children and adults, Advent exhibitions in galleries and museums, torchlight tours and night watchman tours through the old town — the city's culture of Schwäbisch Hall shines during Advent. Combined with candied almonds, mulled wine, Swabian specialties, and the regional Haller Lebkuchen, it creates one of the most atmospheric Christmas market experiences in Southern Germany.

Christmas Market in one of Southern Germany's most beautiful old towns
From Thursday, November 26th, to Sunday, December 20th, 2026, the Christmas Magic Schwäbisch Hall will be held. Four weeks of Christmas market in one of the most beautiful old towns in Hohenlohe — with its narrow alleys, the stairs to St. Michael's Church, the patrician houses, and the baroque town hall. The mix of historical substance and Christmas decorations transforms Schwäbisch Hall into a postcard backdrop during Advent.
Four Locations in the Old Town
The Christmas Magic extends over several locations: The market square with the baroque town hall and St. Michael's Collegiate Church is the center with a stage, a large Christmas tree, and the majority of the stalls. The Hospital Church in the south of the old town houses the craft market with curated artisan stalls. The narrow alleys of the old town — Untere Herrngasse, Klosterhof, Pfarrgasse — are lined with more small stalls and decorated with fairy lights.
Program — Theatre, Exhibitions, Tours
More than just the market itself, the program defines the Christmas Magic. Christmas theatre for children and adults is shown in various venues — Hospital Church, City Museum, Globe Theatre Schwäbisch Hall. Advent exhibitions in galleries and museums focus on Christmas and winter themes. Torchlight tours and night watchman tours through the old town take place several times a week, utilizing the special atmosphere of the illuminated alleys. The gingerbread house on the market square is the center of the children's program with craft activities, storytelling, and encounters with Santa Claus.
Mulled Wine, Candied Almonds, and Swabian Specialties
Culinary offerings are dominated by the usual Christmas market classics: candied almonds, spiced mulled wine in various versions (red, white, apple mulled wine, non-alcoholic for children), Swabian specialties like Maultaschen and Schupfnudeln, bratwurst, crêpes, stollen, and cookies. A special local specialty is the Haller Lebkuchen — a traditional Hohenlohe pastry found in several varieties at various stalls.
Schwäbisch Hall — Salt City with a World-Class Cultural Scene
Schwäbisch Hall, a town of around 41,000 inhabitants in the Schwäbisch Hall district, was a Free Imperial City for centuries and, through its salt production, one of the important economic centers of Southern Germany. Today, it is known for its historic old town, the Globe Theatre (a replica of Shakespeare's Globe), the Kunsthalle Würth (one of the significant private collections of modern art in Germany), and St. Michael's Collegiate Church with its impressive grand staircase, where the open-air plays of the Freilichtspiele Schwäbisch Hall take place every summer. The Christmas Magic is the Advent counterpart to the summer open-air theatre tradition.
