Christmas market in the historic courtyard of Fronte Beckers on two Advent weekends
Fronte Beckers is part of the historic Germersheim fortress, built in the 19th century during the Bavarian Kingdom. After its demilitarization in 1922, large parts of the complex were preserved and are now used for cultural purposes. The Fronte Beckers courtyard provides an extraordinary setting for a Christmas market: high fortress walls, arched gates, and the intimate courtyard with festive lighting create an atmosphere incomparable to traditional market square Christmas markets.
The market takes place over two consecutive Advent weekends: the first and second Advent weekends. It is open Fridays from 4 PM to 9 PM, Saturdays from 2 PM to 9 PM, and Sundays from 12 PM onwards. This compact format concentrates the Christmas market experience into two particularly atmospheric weekends, avoiding the prolonged fatigue that often characterizes larger markets.
A Christmas Express train runs through the fortress grounds – a small train that delights children and families. Artisans offer their work at the stalls: ceramics, wood, textiles, jewelry, and glass art. Regional specialties, from honey to jams, complement the offerings. A children's bakery invites the youngest visitors to bake along.
Mulled wine from Palatinate vintners, punch, bratwurst, potato pancakes, crepes, and sweet pastries form the culinary basis. The city of Germersheim ensures a regional, high-quality selection at the food stalls. The fortress ambiance, enhanced by festive lighting, creates a special mood that makes the market a destination for visitors from the Karlsruhe region and the wider Southern Palatinate.
The detailed program for 2026 will be published by the city of Germersheim on germersheim.eu. The key details (1st/2nd Advent weekends, opening hours, stall numbers, Christmas Express, children's bakery) are confirmed by official city communications and pfalz.de.
