About Chanson & Boule

Chanson & Boule is a traditional event organized by the German-French Society Ludwigshafen/Mannheim and the association On s'amuse, held on Whit Monday in Ludwigshafen's Ebertpark. The Orangerie and its surroundings transform into a little piece of France for an afternoon: the Duo SansBaguette performs classic French chansons from Charles Trenet to Joseph Kosma and Édith Piaf, Boule players gather on the lawns, and French specialties from crêpes and quiches to wine and Pastis shape the atmosphere. Free admission.

French Culture on Whit Monday

Whit Monday is a classic family holiday in the Franco-German border region and traditionally associated with culinary and cultural programs in the Palatinate. Chanson & Boule implements this program in Ludwigshafen's Ebertpark in a particularly charming way. For several years, the German-French Society Ludwigshafen/Mannheim, together with the association On s'amuse, has been bringing a French afternoon program to the Vorderpfalz region.

SansBaguette: a Chanson Duo with Repertoire Depth

The musical program centers around the duo SansBaguette, featuring singer Maleika Ledig-Schmidt and pianist Heidrun Arnegger on the electric piano. Their repertoire ranges from classic chansons of the 1930s and 1940s (Charles Trenet, Édith Piaf, Yves Montand) to film music classics by Joseph Kosma – including “Les Feuilles mortes” – and modern French-language songs. The intimate ensemble and the direct connection between voice and piano create an atmosphere that seamlessly blends with the ambiance of Ebertpark.

Boule: the True Summer Pastime

During the concert and intermissions, Boule games are held on the forecourt for everyone – whether you bring your own balls or use borrowed sets. The mix of live music and sporty, playful togetherness gives the afternoon that relaxed, southern French character that feels particularly harmonious on a Whit Monday in the Palatinate.

French Cuisine Under the Open Sky

The program is accompanied by culinary offerings featuring French specialties: crêpes, quiches, savory tarts, pâté, French cheese, wine, Pastis, and non-alcoholic refreshments. This transforms Whit Monday in Ebertpark into a mini culinary trip to France in the heart of the Vorderpfalz.
