Overview

The premiere edition of the Chamer Straßenmusikfestival took place in 2024 in the city center of Cham. With bands, youth orchestras, and soloists at several locations, the city of Cham for the first time relied on an open, decentralized music format to liven up the city center with this event — a concept that was so successful that a second edition will follow in 2026.

With the premiere in 2024, the city of Cham deliberately established a new format: a decentralized open-air music festival in the city center, presenting professionals and amateur musicians on equal footing and foregoing fixed admission. The response was significant — clubs, schools, and restaurants participated, and the cityscape became unusually multi-voiced on a summer weekend.

Building on the experiences of 2024, the Municipal Cultural Office further developed the concept for 2026: longer duration (three days instead of one), clear thematic structure (party opening, youth music afternoon, grand festival Sunday), and the prominent Cantissima finale at the market square.
