Traditional marksmen's festival in the Duchy of Lauenburg — parade, shooting competition, and club life
In the Duchy of Lauenburg, the southeastern district of Schleswig-Holstein between the Elbe and Lübeck, the marksmen's tradition is deeply rooted. Almost every municipality has its own marksmen's club, and the marksmen's festivals are the highlights of the village festival calendar. The Schützenverein Büchen und Umgegend e.V. is one of the most active in the region — and its annual marksmen's festival on the Schützenplatz at Fuchsweg is a must-attend event for members, former members, families, and guests from the entire community.
The Büchen Schützenfest follows the classic schedule:
The Schützenplatz at Fuchsweg, with its shooting range and festival tent area, is the club's central event venue. On the same weekend as the Schützenfest — geographically directly adjacent — the flea market organized by Siegel-Konzept also takes place, drawing additional crowds to Büchen.
Büchen is a municipality with around 6,500 inhabitants located on the Hamburg–Berlin railway line and the Elbe-Lübeck Canal. The municipality is a railway hub for commuters to Hamburg and Schwarzenbek. Despite its modern location, a strong sense of community life has been preserved — fire brigades, marksmen's clubs, musical ensembles, and sports clubs shape the festival calendar.
The weekend of May 23/24, 2026, was dedicated to the Schützenfest in Büchen. The Schützenverein Büchen und Umgegend e.V. invited everyone to the traditional festival weekend at the Schützenplatz Fuchsweg — with a parade, king's shooting, and dancing.
As in previous years, the program followed the classic marksmen's ritual: assembly and flag salute on Saturday, parade through the town, followed by the king's shooting at the range and a joint festival evening under the tent. Sunday featured the king's breakfast and the proclamation of the new marksmen's majesties.
Admission to the festival grounds is free. Tickets for the social evenings with dancing are available from the marksmen's club.
By train: Büchen is an important hub on the Hamburg–Berlin line (RE and IC). From Büchen station, it's about a 10-minute walk to Schützenplatz Fuchsweg. By car: Directly on the B207, connection via A24 (Hamburg–Berlin, exit Talkau) or A20 (Lübeck–Wismar). Parking is available at the Schützenplatz and on surrounding areas.
Admission to the festival grounds is free. Tickets for the social evenings with dancing can be purchased from the marksmen's club — for telephone inquiries, call +49 4155 497668.
Usually, the flea market organized by Siegel-Konzept takes place in Büchen on the same weekend — both events complement each other well and attract a larger weekend audience.
