Overview

In 2025, the Brunnenfest Kettwig was again canceled — the second year in a row without the most important district event in southern Essen. During this time, the Kettwiger Interessengemeinschaft (KettIN) prepared for the 2026 comeback, with a new organizational structure and revised concept. For Kettwig, the double break was a clearly noticeable disruption in the local event calendar.

The break year 2025 meant the second summer in a row without the traditional Brunnenfest for Kettwig. This gap was intensely discussed in the district and in the local press. During this time, KettIN, as the organizer, worked on a restructuring — improved safety concepts, clearer sponsorship, communication support — which now culminates in the 2026 comeback. For Kettwig's identity, the revival of this district festival is of central importance, which is why it was widely announced in local reporting months before September 2026.
