Craft market in memory of the dyeing tradition of the Blauen Ländchen with Sunday shopping
The Blaue Ländchen – the fertile high plateau between the Middle Rhine, Lahn, and Taunus – owes its name to an old craft tradition: the cultivation and processing of dyer's woad, a plant from which blue dye for the textile industry was obtained until the 17th century. From this tradition, the craft of blue dyeing developed in and around Nastätten.
The Blaufärbermarkt picks up on this history and brings it to life on a Sunday in September. The Römerstraße, the main axis of Nastätten's town center, becomes a market and festival mile. Stalls present handcrafted products – textiles, leather goods, jewelry, ceramics – and regional specialties from the Blauen Ländchen.
A special focus is on demonstrations of dyeing techniques: Anyone who wants to see how vibrant indigo is created from the inconspicuous dyer's woad plant can watch the dyers at work. Workshops and hands-on activities complement the program.
The Sunday shopping from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. also makes the day attractive for bargain hunters. Boutiques, bookstores, and shops in the town center open in the afternoon, taking advantage of the high visitor frequency.
The market is organized by the Gewerbeverein Nastätten (Nastätten Business Association), which is also behind the "Nachtbummel" (night stroll) in June and the "Weihnachtsstraßen-Format" (Christmas street format) in Advent. With this series, the association creates a rhythm of town festivals throughout the year, sharpening Nastätten's profile as a vibrant small town in the Blauen Ländchen.
The 2026 edition once again honors the historical tradition of blue dyeing in the Blauen Ländchen. The combination of a craft market, demonstrations, and Sunday shopping makes the day a fixed date in Nastätten's event calendar.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the Business Association in advance. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Location: Römerstraße and Nastätten town center, 56355 Nastätten.
Date: Sunday, September 27, 2026 (4th weekend in September). Sunday shopping 1 p.m.–6 p.m.
