About Bitburg plays

"Bitburg plays" is the big city family festival in Bitburg, where the city center between the Haus der Jugend and the Maximiner-Wäldchen is transformed into a giant playground. On Sunday, May 31, 2026, from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, over 40 exhibitors – clubs, organizations, sports clubs, and social initiatives – will present hands-on activities for children, teenagers, and adults. The program includes Marble Run, Nesting Box workshops, Upcycling activities, 3x3 basketball, Halfpipe skate, wheelchair basketball, and pétanque. Organized by the Bitburg Business Association in cooperation with Engagierte Stadt Bitburg and Stadtmarketing.

"Bitburg plays" is the big Sunday festival of the city of Bitburg, which takes place annually at the end of May. It transforms Bitburg's city center between the Haus der Jugend and the Maximiner-Wäldchen into a giant playground for the whole family. The concept combines play activities, hands-on sports events, inclusion formats, and a Sunday with open shops.

Over 40 Exhibitors

More than 40 exhibitors participate in "Bitburg plays". Associations from the fields of youth, sports, social affairs, environment, and culture present their work and offer hands-on activities for all age groups. The variety ranges from classic games to workshops, from creative crafting activities to sports competitions.

Activities

The range of activities is broad:

  • Marble Run – large ball tracks for children and adults
  • Nesting Box construction (birdhouses) as a contribution to bird and nature conservation
  • Upcycling workshops with creative use of waste materials
  • 3x3 basketball as a participation tournament
  • Halfpipe skate for young sports enthusiasts
  • Wheelchair basketball as an inclusion format
  • Pétanque (boules game) for a relaxed game

Sunday with Open Shops

In parallel with "Bitburg plays", Bitburg's city center is open for Sunday shopping. This allows local retailers to benefit from the family festival. The Bitburg Business Association thus combines its economic policy function with social and cultural commitment.

Organization

The organizers are the Bitburg Business Association, the Engagierte Stadt Bitburg network, and Stadtmarketing Bitburg. The cooperation of these three institutions is exemplary for the civil society and economic integration in a medium-sized Eifel town.
