Overview

In 2025, the Wittdün Volunteer Fire Department also lit the southern Biike bonfire of Amrum Island on the traditional date of February 21. As every year, locals and winter guests gathered behind the municipal depot for an evening of fire, Frisian tradition, and hot drinks from the fire department. Organizer: AmrumTouristik and Wittdün Volunteer Fire Department.

The 2025 edition followed the classic Biike sequence: gathering at the municipal depot, lighting the fire around 6 p.m., short speeches, snack stand by the fire department, and a long evening by the fire. The Wittdün Biike fire, as always, marked the southern end of the three Amrum Biikes.

The Biike tradition is one of the most important identity markers of the North Frisian Islands and has been recognized as UNESCO intangible cultural heritage since 2014.
