Overview
In 2025, the island community gathered again on February 21st for the Biikebrennen at Nordstrand's Süderhafen. With music, mulled wine, and the traditional lighting of the fire, winter was symbolically driven out—a custom that represents vibrant Frisian identity to this day.
As every year, the Biikebrennen took place on February 21, 2025, at Süderhafen. The Nordstrander Heimatverein had piled the wood, prepared the straw figure, and provided music and refreshments at the Watt'n Grill. At dusk, the helpers lit the fire, which shone far across the Wadden Sea. Afterwards, locals and guests gathered in the guesthouses for the traditional kale dinner with aquavit.
