Overview

The 61st edition of the Berliner Theatertreffen took place in May 2025 at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele in Berlin-Wilmersdorf. As every year, the independent jury of theatre critics invited ten remarkable productions from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland to Berlin. Accompanying formats such as Stückemarkt, Camp, and award ceremonies rounded off the two-week festival.

The Berliner Theatertreffen 2025, in its 61st edition, continued the tradition since 1964: for two weeks in May, the festival at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele brought together the ten productions from the German-speaking world deemed "remarkable" by the jury.

As in previous years, the spectrum ranged from classic drama productions to contemporary performance and dance pieces, as well as intermedial stage works. The Stückemarkt and Camp Theatertreffen were again important accompanying formats – the former as a platform for new theatre texts, the latter as a workshop and meeting place for young theatre makers from several countries.

The organiser was Berliner Festspiele; the festival took place at Schaperstraße 24 in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district. Key awards for German-language theatre were presented alongside, including the 3sat Prize. Thus, the Theatertreffen 2025 remained true to its claim of being the most important industry gathering for German-language theatre.
