Traditional local festival of the Berghausen local committee at the Weiberbratenbrunnen opposite the church – 4th weekend in June
The Berghäuser Hohlbrunnenfest is a typical Palatinate local festival with historical connections. The venue is the Weiberbratenbrunnen – a historically significant fountain opposite the church in the Berghausen district of the municipality of Römerberg. The unusual fountain name „Weiberbraten" (literally „women’s roast") probably goes back to a local legend or a historical anecdote and is part of Berghausen's heritage.
The organiser is the Berghausen Local Committee – an association of local clubs that coordinates cultural and festive activities in the district. Such local committees are widespread in the Palatinate, especially in districts of larger municipalities, and are an important pillar of village life.
The Hohlbrunnenfest traditionally takes place on the fourth weekend in June – a date that marks the start of summer in the southern Vorderpfalz region. In combination with the Heiligensteiner Kerwe at the beginning of June and the Lochhewwel-Kerwe in Mechtersheim at the beginning of August, this results in a dense festival calendar for the municipality of Römerberg, which alternately puts the respective districts in the spotlight.
The Hohlbrunnenfest offers:
Berghausen, along with Heiligenstein and Mechtersheim, is one of the three districts of the municipality of Römerberg in the southern Rhein-Pfalz district. The municipality was formed in 1969 from the merger of the three previously independent villages. Berghausen is particularly known for „Rock im Kerschegaade", the five-day music festival organised by KjG Berghausen at the beginning of September. With the Hohlbrunnenfest, the district cultivates a second, quieter festival format in the summer.
The 2026 edition continues the decades-old tradition of the Hohlbrunnenfest as a charming summer festival in the Berghausen district. The Weiberbratenbrunnen, with its historic backdrop opposite the Berghausen church, offers a special atmosphere that sets the festival apart from the region's large folk festivals and focuses on neighbourly conviviality.
The exact programme for 2026 will be published by the organiser in early summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
