Young Wines and DJ Sets in the Würzburg Hofkeller
Beats & Grapes uses a venue that defies categorization: the Staatlicher Hofkeller beneath the Würzburg Residence. The vaults are among the largest historic wine cellars in Germany and, with their sandstone arches, low ceilings, and labyrinthine corridors, provide a backdrop that rivals any club. In this setting, young Franconian vintages meet electronic DJ sets — and the audience discovers that a glass of Silvaner and a good beat can go together perfectly.
The festival runs over several evenings — typically two April weekends — on Fridays and Saturdays from 6:00 PM to 11:30 PM (sometimes slightly shorter on Sundays). Each date features a new DJ lineup, while the wine selection remains young, fresh, and surprising. The atmosphere is decidedly closer to a club than a traditional wine festival: glitter outfits are encouraged, with a dance floor between barrels, and wine spritzers and cocktails mixed from Hofkeller wines.
The lineup from past editions included DJs such as Brian, Tobi Grimm, Tobias Göbel, Yvonne Mimosa, and Tim Timsen — DJs from the Lower Franconian and supra-regional scene. The mix ranges between House, Disco, Indie Electronica, and Pop hits — deliberately broad to ensure that even the less club-oriented audience feels comfortable.
Würzburg, a city in the Lower Franconia administrative region (Bavaria) and the capital of Franconian wine, is a UNESCO World Heritage site along with its Residence and the associated Hofkeller. The Staatlicher Hofkeller manages historic vineyards like the Würzburger Stein and is Bavaria's oldest and largest wine-producing estate. Beats & Grapes is part of a modern strategy to open up wine heritage to a younger audience — alongside Hofkeller classics like the "Wein im Schloss" (Wine in the Palace) series and the Stein Wine Hikes.
Beats & Grapes 2026 was spread across several dates in April. Every evening from 6:00 PM to 11:30 PM (slightly shorter on the final day), the Hofkeller's vaults transformed into a party venue. The DJ lineup featured Brian, Tobi Grimm, Tobias Göbel, Yvonne Mimosa, and Tim Timsen. The audience arrived in glitter outfits, the wine bars served young Franconian wines, and the dance floor between the barrels sold out on several dates. The event series has definitively established itself as a fixture in the Lower Franconian festival calendar — a format that unusually but convincingly merges wine and club culture.
Würzburg is easily accessible by ICE high-speed train directly from Frankfurt (1:10 h), Munich (2:00 h), and Berlin. From the main train station to Residenzplatz is about a 15-minute walk or a short tram ride. By car, take the A3 (Frankfurt–Nuremberg); parking garages are available around the Residence.
Tickets are available in advance via hofkeller.de or booking platforms like ticketpay.de. Most dates sell out early — booking in advance is recommended. There is no box office.
Glitter outfits are explicitly encouraged — it's part of the concept. Dance floor, wine bar, cocktails mixed from Hofkeller wines. Cloakroom and snacks available on-site. Minimum age 18 years.
