In 2025, the Bad Mergentheim Volksfest was held on the traditional last weekend of July. This edition also served as an occasion to discuss the future of the festival with the city — date, concept, and appeal compared to the surrounding Tauberfranken festivals (Tauberzeller Lichterfest, RONDO Wine Festival Beckstein, Taubertäler Weindorf, Wittighäuser Weindorf, Rothenburger Weindorf).

This led to the decision for 2026: new operator, new date in July before the high summer, Ferris wheel, Taubertal-Schänke, themed days. The reform aims to re-establish the Volksfest as an attractive summer event in the Main-Tauber district — embedded in the city's double anniversary in 2026.
