Road race through the historic old town of the district capital Aurich
The city of Aurich is the administrative seat of the district of the same name and the economic and cultural center of East Frisia. With around 42,000 inhabitants, it forms the link between the coastal towns on the North Sea and the inland cities of the hinterland. The Aurich City Run is one of the most important popular sports events in the region, combining sporting challenge with a vibrant supporting program in the historic city center.
The city run typically offers several distances aimed at different target groups: a short Bambini run for the youngest participants, a school run, a 5 km fun run, and the 10 km main race. This makes the event suitable for the whole family and allows both beginners and experienced runners to find a suitable competition. The course through the city center is largely flat and therefore easy to manage even for beginners.
The route leads through the historic Aurich city center with its distinctive brick gables, past the market square, and along Aurich Castle. Residents and spectators line the streets, providing applause and encouragement, and contributing significantly to the vibrant atmosphere of the city run. In the finish area, runners can expect a small festival mile with refreshments, sponsor stands, and award ceremonies.
The city run is organized by the City of Aurich in cooperation with local sports clubs. It is more than just a competition: schools, companies, and clubs form teams, families run together, and afterwards, celebrations take place in the cafés and restaurants of the city center. Thus, the Aurich City Run is not only a sporting event but also a social event of great importance for the city's community.
The 2026 City Run uses the unique backdrop of Aurich's city center for a sporting event that combines competition, family fun, and city culture. Registration and race materials are organized in advance via the organizer's website.
