Multi-week arts and crafts exhibition at the Altes Rathaus Gallery — 2026 theme: Inequalities
The year 2026 in Worpswede is entirely dedicated to the 150th birthday of Paula Modersohn-Becker, one of the most significant artists of German Modernism and a formative figure of the Worpswede artists' colony. Numerous exhibitions, events, and initiatives throughout the year are dedicated to her work and person. The Arts and Crafts Days 2026, with their theme 'Inequalities,' respond to the social tensions that Paula Modersohn-Becker experienced as an artist and woman at the beginning of the 20th century.
The exhibition brings together positions from the classic craft disciplines: jewelry, ceramics, glass, metal, wood, textiles, and leather. Each discipline is represented by selected artists whose works interpret the theme 'Inequalities' in their own way. The Altes Rathaus Gallery provides the setting for this curated show and also offers sales opportunities to visitors.
The event series concludes with an open-air exhibition on April 18 and 19 in the vicinity of the gallery. With free admission, visitors can experience the works of the participating craftspeople firsthand, talk to them, and purchase selected pieces.
From March 22 to April 19, the exhibition runs at the Altes Rathaus Gallery. Different artists will be present during this period.
On April 18 and 19, the open-air exhibition opens as the highlight of the event series. Visitors can engage with the artists and purchase selected works free of charge.
