Around 20 open-air concerts and cultural events from May to September in Andernach's most beautiful locations
Andernach has developed a remarkable cultural profile in recent years: the town on the Middle Rhine no longer sees itself merely as a historic gem with a geyser and city walls, but as a vibrant cultural hub with a confident summer program. The Andernach Cultural Summer bundles around 20 open-air events between May and September under one umbrella brand, making the summer months a continuous cultural period.
The venues are as diverse as the program: The Rhine parks on the Andernach Rhine promenade offer a breathtaking open-air stage with views of the Rhine and Burg Hammerstein. The castle garden, with its historic wall and old trees, creates an intimate concert and theater atmosphere. Geysir-Park, near the Andernach Geyser – the world's highest cold-water geyser at 60 meters – is also used for performances. In addition, there are performances in the market square, along the city walls, and at other unusual locations.
The musical program is broad: Rock, pop, singer-songwriters, jazz, classical, world music, and tribute acts alternate. This is combined with readings, theater, comedy nights, and cultural performances. The annual highlight is the Andernacher Sommer Open Air on the first weekend of July, a top-class festival in the Rhine parks featuring national top acts. The traditional Festival of 1000 Lights, the Film Nights in the Castle Garden, and 'Andernach schmeckt!' (Andernach Tastes Good!) are also part of the Cultural Summer program.
The Andernach Cultural Summer is aimed at all age groups and tastes: families will find children's programs and free performances, concert fans can experience top acts in a special atmosphere, and culture enthusiasts can enjoy readings and theater under the open sky. The combination of historic city backdrop, Rhine panorama, and contemporary acts is considered regionally unique.
Andernach is located on the right bank of the Rhine between Koblenz (20 km) and Bonn (45 km) and is directly accessible by train on the left Rhine line. Those planning a Middle Rhine summer vacation will find several cultural components in the Cultural Summer for overnight stays and day trip programs. Tickets and admission conditions vary depending on the event; many program items are free of charge.
The 2026 Cultural Summer edition continues Andernach's commitment to creating a dense series of attractive outdoor cultural offerings during the summer months. The Andernach Cultural Office coordinates the overall program together with local and supra-regional event partners.
