Giovanni Zarrella live in the Roman Amphitheatre Trier on July 17, 2026
The Amphitheater Open Air Trier returns in 2026 after a three-year hiatus, once again transforming the ancient structure at the foot of the Petrisberg into an open-air concert stage. The Amphitheater Trier was built in the 2nd century AD, could hold around 18,000 spectators in Roman times, and is now part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Its oval arena and tiered seating offer an exceptional acoustic and atmospheric stage.
The 2026 season kicks off on July 17 with schlager star Giovanni Zarrella. The Stuttgart-born artist, with Italian roots, has been active in German pop music since the 2000s and has reinvented himself in recent years as a schlager singer with a modern pop sound and as a TV presenter (including the “Giovanni Zarrella Show” on ZDF). His live program combines his own hits, German and Italian cover versions, and schlager classics into a captivating show.
The organizer is Popp Concerts, one of the most experienced concert promoters in the Trier region. Tickets are sold through Ticketmaster and regional advance booking offices. The concert is part of the ten-day Amphitheater Open Air 2026 series (July 17-26), which includes other performances by artists such as Katie Melua, The BossHoss, Feine Sahne Fischfilet, Versengold, and Fury in the Slaughterhouse.
The best way to get there is on foot from the city center (approx. 25 minutes) or by city bus to the Amphitheater stop. Due to the central location and limited parking, public transport is recommended.
With the resumption of the Amphitheater Open Air series after a three-year break, the city of Trier is reviving a central format of its summer concert season. Giovanni Zarrella's performance on July 17 marks the season's opening.
Several thousand visitors are expected per concert evening. Due to the World Heritage status of the Amphitheatre, special regulations apply to construction, sound systems, and visitor management.
The exact 2026 program will be communicated by the organizer in advance. The structure follows the proven benchmarks of previous years:
