The Highlight of the Nienburg Festival Year

For over five decades, the Nienburg Old Town Festival has been the largest city festival in the asparagus town and the absolute highlight in the calendar of regional Volksfeste. With its 54th edition in 2026, the festival underscores its deep roots in the social life of the city and the entire Mittelweser region.

Several Concert Stages in the Old Town

Unlike pure amusement parks or classic Volksfeste, the Old Town Festival focuses on several concert stages spread throughout the old town. The market square, Schloßplatz, and other squares host stages with different musical styles – from rock and pop to Schlager, cover bands, and regional artists. The concert program is spread across all four evenings and is free to access.

Opening and Program

Thursday, September 24th: Official opening with beer tapping ceremony, first concerts, and festival pubs. Friday, September 25th: Large flea market in the city center and children's festival on Leinstraße with entertainment, games, carousels, and hands-on activities for the youngest visitors. Saturday, September 26th: Large flea market, main concert evening with the most prominent acts of the program. Sunday, September 27th: Family Sunday, morning pint (Frühschoppen), closing concerts, relaxed conclusion.

Organizer: Nienburger Werbegemeinschaft

The festival is organized by the Nienburger Werbegemeinschaft – an association of the city's retailers, restaurateurs, and service providers. This sponsorship explains the festival's character, which functions not only as a Volksfest but also as a showcase for Nienburg's retail sector. The city center shops take advantage of the festival for extended opening hours, special promotions, and street stalls.

Economic Significance

The Old Town Festival is the most economically significant weekend of the year for Nienburg's city center. Tens of thousands of visitors from the Nienburg district, Bremen, Hanover, and Verden come to the city, revitalizing both the festival pubs and the surrounding shops. For many regional bands and artists, the festival is an important performance venue.
