Summery Altstadtfest in the historic alleys around Liebfrauenkirche and Münzplatz since 1975
The Altstadtfest Koblenz has developed into an institution in the festival calendar of the Rhine city since 1975. The organizer is the Große Koblenzer Karnevalsgesellschaft 1847 e.V., one of the oldest carnival clubs in Germany, which emphasizes its connection to the city's history and festival culture with the Altstadtfest.
The festival unfolds in the historic old town around the Liebfrauenkirche, Münzplatz, and the old town pubs — a beautiful backdrop with listed half-timbered and sandstone buildings. The squares and alleys are equipped with stages, wine and beer stands, cocktail bars, and street food stalls. A cozy, Mediterranean summer atmosphere characterizes the festival.
Bands and artists from the Middle Rhine region perform on several stages. The musical spectrum ranges from rock and pop to country, blues, jazz, and folk, as well as cover bands for party hits. The Liebfrauenkirche serves as the backdrop for one of the main stages, creating an extraordinary atmosphere with its Romanesque-Gothic architecture.
The old town of Koblenz is known for its many traditional pubs, wine bars, and restaurants. During the Altstadtfest, many establishments extend their outdoor seating into the alleys, making the festival feel like a shared open-air restaurant for the entire old town. Additionally, there are numerous stalls offering Palatinate, Rhenish, and international specialties.
The 2026 edition follows the proven concept of a three-day city festival with multiple stages and continuous catering. The detailed stage program will be published in June 2026 by the Große Koblenzer Karnevalsgesellschaft. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
