Rheinhessen's Oldest Wine Hike – Annually Since 1979
The Alsheimer Weinwanderung is more than just a wine festival – it's Rheinhessen's oldest wine hike. Since 1979, it has been held annually on the third Sunday in September; in 2026, it will reach its 47th edition.
In 1979, the Alsheimer Weinwanderung was one of the first events to consistently implement the concept of “wine tasting instead of a festival ground, hiking instead of standing still, landscape experience instead of a festival tent.” Today, there are numerous wine hikes in Rheinhessen – Alsheim is the mother of all these formats.
The circular route is 8 kilometers long and leads through the vineyards around Alsheim. The trail is manageable, even for families with older children. Those in a hurry can complete it in two to three hours; those who take their time for each wine station, each view, and each conversation can spend the whole day.
Wines are served at several stations along the circular route. Alsheim's vintners participate, presenting their vintages, vineyard sites, and styles. Accompanying culinary offerings range from bread with sausage and cheese to regional specialties.
The start and finish point is the Bürgerhaus Alsheim at Mehlpfortstraße 15. Entrance bands are sold here, the circular route starts and ends here, and hikers can relax and socialize here at the end of the day.
The entrance fee is €3.50 – a very moderate sum that includes the hiking band and access to the stations. Wine, food, and drinks are paid for separately at the stations.
The 47th Alsheimer Weinwanderung 2026 will take place on Sunday, September 20, from 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM. The start and finish point is the Bürgerhaus Alsheim, Mehlpfortstraße 15.
