Albstadt Shepherd Festival — Edition 2025

At the Albstadt Shepherd Festival 2025, thousands of visitors flocked to the Raichberg to experience the wander shepherd tradition of the Swabian Alb up close. The sheep shearing demonstrations attracted spectators of all ages, the shepherd's race provided sporting excitement, and the charcoal burner's pile demonstrated historical charcoal production. At the market, wool processors offered blankets, sweaters, and felt hats, regional caterers served lamb sausage, lamb shank, and Käsespätzle, and the petting zoo with lambs and ponies delighted the children. With views of the juniper heaths, over the Alb foothills, and in clear weather up to the Alps, festival-goers experienced a piece of living Swabian cultural landscape that would not exist at all without centuries of shepherd work.
