Ten-day Bavarian Whitsun Volksfest in the Rosenheim district
When the days get warm in Upper Bavaria around Whitsun, the Pfingstvolksfestzeit (Whitsun Volksfest season) begins in Bad Aibling. For ten days, from Whitsun Friday to the following Sunday, the Volksfestplatz (festival grounds) of the district town in the Mangfall Valley invites you to a classic Bavarian Volksfest – with a beer tent, amusement rides, a parade, and fireworks.
The festival tent is operated by Fahrenschon Festzelte, a well-established showman family in Upper Bavaria, which also sets up tents in Rosenheim/Pang, Großkarolinenfeld, Schlehdorf, Murnau, Garmisch, and Penzberg. The festival beer from the Rosenheim brewery Auerbräu is served, tapped from traditional wooden barrels. The menu features classic Bavarian delicacies: crispy roast chicken, pork knuckle, grilled fish on a stick, and duck with red cabbage.
Bad Aibling is a spa town in the southern Rosenheim district, at the transition from the Inn Valley to the foothills of the Alps. The town is known for its mud baths and its historic center around Marienplatz – where the Pfingstvolksfest starts with a free beer tapping ceremony before moving to the festival grounds. The festival is deeply rooted in the local community: schools close early, traditional costume groups march in together, and families from Bad Aibling, Rosenheim, Kolbermoor, and the entire Mangfall Valley attend over several evenings.
Unlike Munich's Oktoberfest (Wiesn), the Aiblinger Pfingstvolksfest remains a Volksfest with local roots. People stand more than they sit at the beer tables – also in a convivial sense. Stein-holding contests are taken seriously, and brass music sets the rhythm. Anyone looking for a truly authentic Bavarian Whitsun festival will find it here.
Over ten days, the festival will once again attract visitors from the entire Rosenheim district and beyond in 2026. With the classic four-pillar concept – festival tent, amusement rides, brass music, parade – this edition continues the long-standing tradition.
In the Fahrenschon festival tent, Auerbräu Rosenheim's festival beer will be served. On the menu: crispy roast chicken (Hendl), pork knuckle (Schweinshaxe), grilled fish on a stick (Steckerlfisch), and – the Aibling specialty highlight – duck with red cabbage (Ente mit Blaukraut). The adjoining beer garden is also open in good weather.
The range includes classic children's carousels and bumper cars, as well as modern rides – recently, "Flipper" and "Popstars" were among the crowd-pullers.
