Advent Atmosphere in Saterland

The Adventszauber Scharrel is one of the largest and most popular Christmas experiences in Saterland. The venue is the Scharrel Riding and Leisure Facility at Hauptstraße 228 — a spacious area that transforms into an Advent-themed experience landscape.

2nd Advent — Sunday, December 6, 2026

The 2026 event takes place on Sunday, December 6 (2nd Sunday of Advent), from around 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The afternoon timing is ideal for families who want to combine their Advent outing with mulled wine, baked apples, and a gift hunt.

Over 30 Exhibitors

The market offers over 30 exhibitors: arts and crafts, Advent decorations, nativity scenes, wood carvings, knitted and felt items, jewelry, natural cosmetics. Plus culinary offerings: mulled wine, Feuerzangenbowle (mulled wine with rum), bratwurst, crêpes, roasted almonds, gingerbread.

Family Program

For children, there is a carousel, pony rides, and a visit from St. Nicholas, who traditionally walks through the market and distributes small gifts. The riding and leisure facility provides plenty of space and covered areas for cozy breaks.

Saterland — Own Language, Own Culture

The municipality of Saterland in the Cloppenburg district is famous for its cultural uniqueness: Saterland Frisian (Seeltersk) is spoken here — one of the smallest language communities in Europe with about 2,000 speakers. This linguistic independence gives the Saterland festivals a special character and makes every visit a cultural experience.
