Overview

The Active City Arena 2025, as its premiere edition, introduced the new sports format at Heiligengeistfeld. 3x3 Basketball, Urban Sports Week, initial boxing appearances, and Beach Volleyball, along with the Active City Village, proved the concept's viability. Most offerings were free, with competition finals requiring tickets.

The premiere edition in 2025 translated the concept of Active City Hamburg into a concrete open-air format. 17 days of sports in the middle of the city, with world-class competitions and accessible taster sessions, confirmed the strategy of the Ministry of the Interior and Sport to make sports more visible in the urban landscape.

As early as 2025, 3x3 basketball, Urban Sports Week, the boxing premiere, and beach volleyball demonstrated that Heiligengeistfeld is a viable urban sports arena. Over 200,000 visitors attended during the 17 days, and the Active City Village remained well-frequented even on rainy days. The positive feedback enabled the extension of the format for 2026.
