The 2025 European Championship took place from June 3rd to 8th, 2025, in Thessaloniki (Greece) — the direct predecessor to the 2026 Eckernförde edition. The annual European Championship moves from country to country; Germany hosts again in 2026, following Kiel Week's regular role in hosting European Championship functions.

2025 Title Holders

In the 49er class, New Zealanders Seb Menzies and George Lee Rush secured the European title — indicating that the class, despite being a "European Championship," is also open to crews from outside Europe. In the 49erFX, Canadian sisters Georgia and Antonia Lafrance dominated. The 2026 Eckernförde edition will have to measure up to this high standard.
