Guided hiking week of the Erfweiler Tourist Association in the Dahn Rock Country
The Erfweiler Hiking Week is one of the established hiking weeks in the Palatinate and looks back on a 37-year history in 2026. It is organized by the Erfweiler Tourist Association, a classic tourism association, typical for the tourist-oriented communities of the Palatinate. The hiking week is its flagship and a testament to the importance of tourism for the region.
Erfweiler is located in the Dahn Rock Country, a region that belongs to the UNESCO Palatinate Forest-North Vosges Biosphere Reserve and is one of Germany's most scenic hiking areas with its spectacular sandstone formations, castle ruins, and dense mixed forests. Erfweiler itself is small and tranquil, with good infrastructure for hikers: guesthouses, inns, hiking trails starting from the village.
The program concept follows the proven structures of Palatinate hiking weeks: one or two tours are offered per day, with different lengths and difficulty levels. Full-day tours typically range from 12 to 20 kilometers, while half-day tours are around 7 to 12 kilometers. The tours are led by experienced hiking guides who know the Rock Country, its history, and its trails. The meeting point is every morning at Belmontplatz in the center of Erfweiler.
The hiking week's tours take participants to all the important sights of the region: Berwartstein Castle, Drachenfels, Teufelstisch, Geiersteine, Lämmerfelsen. Less-known paths are also included in the program – paths known only to insiders, which constitute the specific experience offered by a guided hiking week.
As is customary in the Palatinate, stopping for refreshments is part of the hiking concept. Each tour leads to at least one mountain hut or inn where participants can take a break with Palatinate cuisine and a cool beer or wine. This conviviality is not an add-on but part of the program – it turns a sporting tour into a social experience.
The hiking week traditionally opens at the "Jägerhof" inn, which serves as the social hub of the event. Evening events with slide shows, exchange of experiences, and cozy get-togethers complement the daily hiking program.
