Bremen hosts the central celebration for Germany's Unity Day in 2026. On the Länder Mile at the Osterdeich, all 16 federal states present themselves, and the city expects up to 400,000 guests.
Pavilions on the Länder Mile already line the Osterdeich. Bremen hosts Germany's Unity Day celebrations from October 2 to 4 because the Hanseatic city holds the presidency of the Bundesrat in 2026, and the smallest and oldest republic in Germany stages the central Bürgerfest under the motto "Many Strengths, One Country", with a crowd the Senate puts between 300,000 and 400,000 and calls the largest political public festival of the year.
The Länder Mile, Blue Light Mile and Sea Mile at the Osterdeich
The heart of the German Unity Day festival is the Länder Mile at the Osterdeich, where all 16 federal states present elaborate pavilions, and the mile opens on Saturday, October 3, 2026, for visitors.
Right next to it lies the Sea Mile, with its notable vessels, echoing the Hanseatic city's maritime tradition.
On the Blue Light Mile, the fire brigade, police and rescue services show their work, and the city centre together with the Schlachte, on the Weser riverfront, turn into a festival strip for three days.
Constitutional bodies, concerts and a family area
Inside the Weser Stadium, the Bundestag, Bundesrat, federal government and Federal Constitutional Court present their work, making democracy tangible, with so-called living-room concerts held right inside the stadium.
Saturday, October 3, 2026, is a nationwide public holiday.
On the Domshof square, a large concert stage plays, alongside theatre performances and panel discussions on further stages downtown, while a dedicated family area offers play and craft activities for the youngest guests, and admission to the entire Bürgerfest remains free.
The city publishes the programme in advance at tagderdeutscheneinheit.de. Given the expected turnout of several hundred thousand guests, it recommends travelling by public transport.
