Kurparkfest 2026 — A Look Back
On Saturday, July 18, 2026, the Kurpark in Bad Mergentheim transformed into a vibrant festival landscape starting at 3:00 PM. The event coincided with the city's double anniversary: 200 years since the discovery of the first healing spring (1826) and 100 years since it was officially designated a "Bad" (spa town) (1926).
Music filled the air across three stages, featuring the Kurensemble Bad Mergentheim, the youth band project JuMuKa, the famos.Quartett, and a grand finale by the youth symphony orchestra, while over twenty stalls provided a wide array of culinary delights. The highlight of the evening was the illumination of nearly 15,000 colorful candles after dark, followed by a midnight display of illuminated water fountains at the music pavilion.

Summer Festival in the Kurpark
Every year in mid-July, the Grand Kurpark Festival with its spectacular illumination draws a diverse crowd to the Bad Mergentheim Kurpark. From the afternoon onwards, three stages and over twenty food and drink stalls are spread across the spacious grounds, before the grand illumination lights up the park in the evening.
Music on Three Stages
In 2026, the Bad Mergentheim Spa Ensemble opened the afternoon at the music pavilion. Later, the youth band project JuMuKa took over, followed in the evening by the famos.Quartett, who delighted the audience with a mix of soul, pop, and timeless classics—ranging from Ray Charles and Zaz to Elvis Presley. The Youth Symphony Orchestra performed around 11:30 PM. At the Kurhaus, the Joe Spaeth Trio and bocabo performed, while Denise & Tobi and the Trio Odalys played at the Wilhelmsbau.
Culinary Delights and Children's Program
Over twenty stalls offered a culinary journey from regional delicacies to summer specialties. Meanwhile, a children's program invited younger guests to participate and explore. A special experience for the younger ones: children aged eight to twelve were invited to help set up and light the candles—meeting at 7:15 PM on the lawn between the Octogon and the Parkhotel.
Nearly 15,000 Candles—The Illumination
The highlight of the festival is the illumination after dark: nearly 15,000 colorful candles transform the park into glowing ornaments. The event concludes around midnight with the colorfully lit water features at the music pavilion.
Double Anniversary 2026
2026 was a special year for Bad Mergentheim: 200 years ago, on October 13, 1826, shepherd Franz Gehrig discovered the first healing spring, laying the foundation for the future spa town. 100 years ago, on August 2, 1926, the city received the title "Bad" (Spa) during the centenary of the spring's discovery. The Kurpark Festival was held during this anniversary year.
