Overview

The 20th anniversary edition of Women in Jazz marked two decades of the festival in Halle (Saale). Once again, international female jazz musicians performed at the Opera House, Händel-Halle, and on the Peißnitzinsel. The City of Halle Jazz Award was presented as part of the festival.

The 20th edition of Women in Jazz in May 2025 was an anniversary looking back and forward. Festival directors Ulf Herden and Janis Kapetsis had started in 2006 with Hiromi Uehara — two decades later, the festival was firmly established in Halle and present on the international jazz map. The Next Generation Women in Jazz competition solidified its reputation as a springboard for young female musicians.
