Wissen Children's Carnival – 50th Anniversary

History and Celebration

The Wissen Children's Carnival is one of the most traditional children's carnival events in the Altenkirchen district. In 2026, it celebrates its 50th anniversary – half a century in which countless children from Wissen experienced their first carnival here, danced across the stage in costumes, or watched the dance troupes with wide eyes as spectators.

Anniversary with History

Founded in 1976, the children's carnival has established itself as an independent format of KG Wissen. The goal from the outset was to provide a child-friendly framework for carnival – without the formality of a large hall session, but with plenty of opportunities for participation, child-friendly music, and a stage where the little ones can be active themselves.

kulturWERK wissen as the Venue

Today, kulturWERK wissen is the central venue for carnival, culture, and festivities in the town on the Sieg. With a professional stage, lighting technology, and a spacious hall, it offers the ideal setting for a children's carnival event of this magnitude.

Programme for the Youngest

Child-sized dance troupes, interactive activities, conga lines, sketches, and themed shows are part of the classic repertoire. For the anniversary, additional programme items are expected: retrospectives, honours for long-time participants, and special show acts.

Part of the Wissen Carnival

The children's carnival is part of a comprehensive Wissen carnival programme, which is newly designed by KG Wissen each year. Thus, the 2026 anniversary event is not only a celebration for children but also an important highlight in the town's entire carnival calendar.
