Overview

The 642nd edition of the Bautzen Wenceslas Market once again attracted tens of thousands of visitors to the medieval Upper Lusatian old town during Advent 2025. Around 80 stalls offered Sorbian-German specialties and crafts; the stage program with choirs and brass bands filled the Kornmarkt. A quiet, atmospheric edition that once again underscored the market's status as Germany's oldest officially documented Christmas market.

Wenceslas Market 2025 — The 642nd Edition

The 642nd Bautzen Wenceslas Market took place during Advent 2025, continuing the tradition of the market documented since 1384. Despite mild temperatures, there was a bright Advent atmosphere in the old town for four weeks. Pulsnitz gingerbread, Lusatian mulled wine, and Sorbian specialties were among the best-selling items.

The stage program featured Bautzen city musicians, school choirs, and Sorbian traditional costume groups. The opening on the first day with the traditional mulled wine tapping by the mayor attracted several thousand visitors. A successful start to the 643rd edition in 2026.
