Overview

The 200th edition of the Wendish Carnival Straupitz in February 2025 marked an anniversary of special magnitude. Costume parade with 54 couples on Friday, Zamperer procession with nearly 100 costumed men on Saturday, grand festival procession with Prince Erik I and Princess Lea I on Sunday — a unique weekend of Lower Sorbian tradition in the Spreewald.

The 200th Wendish Carnival in 2025 attracted attention far beyond the region: a festival looking back on two centuries of unbroken tradition, celebrated with all elements of the Lower Sorbian custom. The opening with 54 couples in the parade, the all-day Zampern accompanied by BlaMuEcho on Saturday, the carnival ball with live band Monument, and the grand festival procession on Sunday with prince and princess, ski bunnies, Disney themed floats, and DJ TOBI to conclude marked the weekend's events.

The Fastnachtsverein Straupitz/Spreewald e.V. publicly thanked all helpers, sponsors, and visitors — proof that this festival is based on the volunteer commitment of the entire village community.
