One of the largest and most traditional wine festivals in the Ahr Valley – over two September weekends
The Ahrweiler Wine Weeks are among the largest wine festivals on the Ahr and, at the same time, among the oldest. Unlike the compact village wine festivals in the region, they are spread over two September weekends and fill the market square within the medieval city walls of Ahrweiler. This setting – half-timbered facades, four city gates, and the curved town hall – makes the festival a special experience.
A stage program ensures a lively atmosphere on all six festival days. Bands from the Rhineland and the Eifel, cover bands, and acoustic acts alternate. The stands of the Ahr vintners line the market square; there are seating areas at central points, with the stage as the vibrant hub in between.
In September, the Ahr vintners present their current vintages, coinciding with the start of the grape harvest on the steep slopes along the Ahr. Spätburgunder, Frühburgunder, Portugieser, and sparkling wines are the focus, complemented by Riesling, Weissburgunder, and Grauburgunder. For many guests, the combination of a warm late summer day and a glass of Spätburgunder under the open sky is one of the defining moments of enjoyment in the region.
The Ahrweiler Wine Weeks consistently use a reusable cup system: a deposit is paid upon the first purchase, and the cup can be exchanged or returned at any station. This avoids significant amounts of disposable waste and is part of the festival's commitment to organizing resource-conserving festival operations.
The event combines high wine quality with a high density of activities. Over the two festival weekends, there will be several main stage concerts, morning get-togethers, Sunday afternoon events, and tasting formats.
The exact stage and band program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in advance. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years.
