Four Advent weekends with Christmas market, walk acts, and special program in the city center
The Weihnachtsstadt Peine extends over all four Advent weekends of the year. This long duration distinguishes the format from most classic Christmas markets in the region, which are only open for an extended weekend. Those who want atmosphere, leisurely strolling, and new experiences will find an attractive destination in Peine over several weekends.
Each of the four Advent weekends is dedicated to its own theme. From the opening weekend with a festive carillon to the family Santa Claus on the second weekend, and thematic focuses on the last two weekends, visitors will always experience new program items. This makes a repeat visit during the Advent season worthwhile for many regular guests.
A characteristic feature of the Weihnachtsstadt Peine are the walk acts. Stilt walkers, living statues, angels, Santas, and costumed performers move through the pedestrian zone, creating surprising encounters with visitors. These walk acts are a particular highlight for children, deviating from the classic stall experience of a Christmas market.
Numerous stalls on the historic market square and in the pedestrian zone offer handicrafts, Christmas decorations, gift ideas, and culinary temptations. Mulled wine (Glühwein), punch, bratwurst, potato pancakes (Reibekuchen), crepes, and lard cakes (Schmalzkuchen) are among the classic offerings, supplemented by regional specialties.
On weekends, local choirs, brass bands, school orchestras, and music clubs provide the stage program. This integration of regional club life is an important feature of the event and makes the Weihnachtsstadt a showcase for the diverse cultural activities in and around Peine. Ice hockey clubs, dance schools, and kindergartens add extra color to the program.
Throughout the entire Advent season, the center of Peine is decorated for Christmas. The market stalls are usually open daily, while the special program focuses on the weekends, when stage acts, walk acts, and thematic events animate the city center.
Walk acts, a carousel, stage performances, and children's activities make the Weihnachtsstadt a family-friendly destination. Fairy lights, the scent of fir trees, and the sound of Christmas music create the atmosphere.
