Overview

The Gelsenkirchen City Christmas Market 2025 ran throughout the full Advent period on Heinrich-König-Platz — four weeks of market operation with an Alpine hut, handicrafts, snacks, and mulled wine. The Gelsenkirchen-City Business Association and the city attracted visitors from the Vest Recklinghausen, the Emscher region, and the neighboring Ruhr area cities. The proven program points of St. Nicholas' visit and the puppet theatre were also performed in 2025. Subsequently, the city confirmed the 2026 date.

Advent Month 2025 in Gelsenkirchen City

The 2025 edition followed the proven concept: an Alpine hut as the central point, market stalls arranged in a circle, regular family program. The Gelsenkirchen-City Business Association coordinated the event with the city administration; local exhibitors and regional showmen filled the stalls.

The traditional visit from St. Nicholas and the puppet theatre on Wednesday afternoons once again attracted families. The positive feedback led to the direct confirmation of the format for 2026 — the Christmas market remains Gelsenkirchen's most important pre-Christmas city event.
