50th Anniversary Edition of the Christmas Market in the Medieval Old Town with over 40 Stalls, Torchlight Procession, Fireworks, and the Region's Largest Advent Calendar
In 2026, the Bernkastel-Kues Christmas Market looks back on 50 years of tradition. First organized in 1976, the market has developed into one of the most renowned Christmas markets in the Trier-Mosel region. The 2026 anniversary edition honors this long tradition with special program points.
Anyone who experiences the Bernkastel market square with its crooked half-timbered houses, the famous "Spitzhäuschen" (Pointed House), and the historic town hall in its full Christmas illumination will never forget the atmosphere. The setting is one of the most impressive Advent landscapes in Germany, making the Christmas market a destination with national and international appeal.
For over four weeks, more than 40 stalls will offer a classic Christmas market assortment: mulled wine made from regional Rieslings, punch, hot drinks, bratwurst, potato pancakes, chestnuts, gingerbread, stollen, candied almonds, and regional specialties. In addition, there will be handicrafts, jewelry, arts and crafts, candles, Advent decorations, and souvenirs.
Highlights of the program include a torchlight procession through the old town and fireworks over the Moselle River. Both events take place on selected dates during the four weeks and attract a particularly large number of visitors.
A special feature is the region's largest Advent calendar. The 24 "doors" are designed on the facades of the historic houses and opened daily in December until Christmas – each with a small activity, program, or surprise. The Advent calendar makes the market a destination for repeat visitors who can discover something new every day.
Open daily from 11 AM to 7 PM, Fridays and Saturdays until 9 PM. The extended weekend opening hours allow for a relaxed visit with an overnight stay in one of the city's hotels.
