Overview

The 2025 Walpurgis Night on April 30th once again gathered thousands of Erfurt residents and guests on Cathedral Square. With traditional dances, a witch spectacle, and a large Maypole bonfire, the state capital of Thuringia celebrated the start of spring – a proven classic in Erfurt's event calendar.

Walpurgis Night 2025 – Proven Tradition

In 2025 too, Cathedral Square transformed into an atmospheric festival mile on the last evening of April. From the late afternoon, food stalls offered Thuringian specialties, and the Thuringian Folklore Ensemble opened the stage program with traditional dances around the Maypole.

The highlight was the grand witch and devil spectacle in the late evening, followed by the lighting of the Maypole bonfire. Dancing into May with live music continued until well after midnight. The combination of tradition, family activities, and exuberant dance culture once again made the festival one of the most attended events in Erfurt's annual calendar.

Dance into May on May 1st

The following day, the family and sports festival on Cathedral Square rounded off the festivities. Sports clubs from Erfurt and the region presented their offerings, and children enjoyed a diverse hands-on program.
