Overview

At the Viehscheid Gunzesried 2025, around 1,500 animals returned from the alpine pastures to the valley in mid-September. The 14 herds from 19 alpine pastures arrived at the Scheidplatz throughout the morning. The festival tent, brass music, Scheidwurst, and market fair attracted numerous visitors from across the Oberallgäu – a successful start to the Almabtrieb season in southern Bavaria.

The Viehscheid on September 11, 2025, was very atmospheric with late summer weather. Early in the morning, visitors lined the valley road in anticipation of the first herds. Decorated Kranzkühe led several processions – a sign that the summer on the alpine pastures above the Gunzesried valley had largely passed without incident.

In the large festival tent, the brass band and Krainer Express created a lively atmosphere. Scheidwurst, Allgäu cheese, freshly tapped beer, and the traditional market fair attracted many guests – including numerous hikers and day-trippers from the Allgäu and Tyrol.
