Edition 2025 — Usedom Beach Marathon
No official race took place before the premiere edition in 2026. The organizers, Usedom Tourismus GmbH, intensively prepared the format in 2024 and 2025 — course test runs, logistics planning, and permits characterized this phase without public race dates.
The Usedom Beach Marathon format was announced for the first time by Usedom Tourismus GmbH for the year 2026. In the preceding years, there was no official competition date — the preparation phase included course selection, approval procedures with the lower nature conservation authority of the Vorpommern-Greifswald district, and tests on sand conditions at different times of the year.
The concept of a marathon running entirely on a sandy beach presents particular challenges for organizers — from marking the course without permanent impact on the beach ecosystem to providing support along a 42 km route that cannot be accompanied by car. The intensive preparation in 2024/25 formed the basis for the successful premiere in 2026.
