Overview
The Usedom Beach Marathon format was announced for the first time by Usedom Tourismus GmbH for the year 2026. In the preceding years, there was no official competition date — the preparation phase included course selection, approval procedures with the lower nature conservation authority of the Vorpommern-Greifswald district, and tests on sand conditions at different times of the year.
The concept of a marathon running entirely on a sandy beach presents particular challenges for organizers — from marking the course without permanent impact on the beach ecosystem to providing support along a 42 km route that cannot be accompanied by car. The intensive preparation in 2024/25 formed the basis for the successful premiere in 2026.
