Overview

The premiere of the Türk Halk Oyunları Festivali took place in 2025 on the ufaFabrik summer stage in Berlin-Tempelhof. Various Berlin dance ensembles presented folk dances from the regions of Anatolia — from the Horon dances of the Black Sea coast to Zeybek from the Aegean to Halay round dances from the Southeast. Organizer BTMK Conservatory for Turkish Music Berlin used the premiere to establish the format as an annual open-air showcase of Turkish dance culture in Berlin.

The 2025 premiere was part of a broader program arc by BTMK, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in the same year (founded 1998). The festival complemented the conservatory's regular concert formats — including the BTMK Ensemble - Sound of Istanbul, "Kalpten" Soloist Parade, and "Her Şarkı Bir Yuva" — with a deliberately dance-focused edition. The ufaFabrik summer stage provided a fitting setting for an open-air format with multiple dance ensembles, aiming to reach both the Turkish-speaking community of Berlin and a generally culturally interested audience. The positive reception of the premiere directly led to the programming of the second edition in 2026.
