Overview

The 2025 Traunstein Georgiritt with sword dance took place on Easter Monday, April 21. Over 400 horses and riders paraded from Traunstein's town square to Ettendorf church for the traditional blessing of horses; the sword dance was performed twice in the town square as usual. Free admission.

Georgiritt 2025

The 2025 edition continued the intergenerational tradition of the Traunstein Georgiritt: a festive ride with over 400 horses, blessing of horses at Ettendorf church, and two performances of the historic sword dance in the town square. Since 2016, the tradition has been part of the national register of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

A Living Cultural Heritage

The St. Georgs-Verein, the Burschenverein, the St. Oswald parish, and the town of Traunstein jointly preserve this custom. The procession attracts tens of thousands of spectators annually from Bavaria, Austria, and beyond.
