Overview

The 2025 Trachtenwallfahrt traditionally gathered numerous costume associations of the Oberlandler Gauverband I at the Fischbachau sports field. The procession led to the Birkenstein pilgrimage chapel, where the Holy Mass was celebrated at the open-air altar. The tradition, maintained since 1923, combines customs, faith, and the close connection between costume associations and the Catholic Church in the Bavarian Oberland.

The 2025 pilgrimage followed the usual format — meeting point at the Fischbachau sports field in the morning, procession through the Leitzach Valley, Holy Mass at the open-air altar in front of the Birkenstein pilgrimage chapel. Over 40 costume associations were represented, and several music bands accompanied the procession.

The Trachtenwallfahrt to Birkenstein remains one of the most beautiful and authentic traditional gatherings in Upper Bavaria — without tourist staging, in the usual mix of faith, regional identity, and festive costume culture.
