Overview

The Tonnenabschlagen 2025 in Born a. Darß took place on the first Sunday of August, August 3rd. As every year, participants in decorated attire rode across the festival grounds and struck the herring barrel — Bottom King, Stave King, and Barrel King were subsequently crowned at the Tonnenball.

The 2025 edition took place in warm late summer weather and, as usual, attracted residents, holiday guests, and tradition enthusiasts from the entire region to the festival grounds. The traditional daily schedule — awakening, king's breakfast, parade, tournament, crowning, ball — was faithfully followed.

The Tonnenabschlagen Born is part of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage and is maintained by the local Tonnenverein for generations. In 2025, the festival once again ensured full piers, many horses in the village, and a jubilant atmosphere at the evening Tonnenball.
