Overview

The 39th TEDDY AWARD ceremony took place in February 2025 at the Volksbühne Berlin as part of the 75th Berlinale. Awards were presented in the five TEDDY categories for feature film, documentary, short film, Jury Award, and Special TEDDY, followed by the legendary After Show Party. This reaffirmed its status as the oldest queer film award within a major international festival.

39th TEDDY AWARD — Berlinale 2025

In February 2025, the 39th edition of the TEDDY AWARD presented its five categories in the Main Hall of the Volksbühne on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in the Mitte district. The TEDDY jurors had previously reviewed the entire 75th Berlinale program — Competition, Panorama, Forum, Generation, Encounters, and Berlinale Shorts — and selected films for Best Feature Film, Best Documentary/Essay Film, Best Short Film, Jury Award, and Special TEDDY (Lifetime Achievement Award). The ceremony remained true to its original mission: an award as a queer activist platform, supported by TEDDY e.V., curated by an international, queer-committed jury. The mandatory After Show Party from 10:30 PM in the Salons and Foyers of the Volksbühne brought together Europe's queer film scene, industry representatives, and the Berlin queer community — one of the most important networking events of the Berlinale week. With the 39th edition, the question arose of how the 40th anniversary in 2026 would be staged — the answer came later with the motto “WILD AT HEART” and the Special TEDDY for Céline Sciamma.
