Tanztriennale Hamburg

Prior to the first Tanztriennale in 2026, Hamburg did not have a comparable major event that brought together ballet, the independent scene, and urban dance styles in a city-wide festival format. Hamburg's dance landscape had evolved in the preceding years along three pillars: the Hamburg Ballett under John Neumeier (until 2024) and Demis Volpi (since 2024) as the classical pole, Kampnagel as an international production house for contemporary performance, and the K3 — Centre for Choreography as a support and residency venue for emerging choreographic talent.

This constellation led to the idea of pooling resources and establishing an international dance festival with the support of the German Federal Cultural Foundation – the Tanztriennale, whose first edition runs from June 14th to 21st, 2026.
